About:
I was born in Anchorage, Alaska. My father was a career Army officer and I traveled extensively while growing up, including two years in Germany. My undergraduate degree in Mass Communications was achieved at the University of South Dakota. I worked at the speech and hearing clinic at the Austin State School ( now called the Austin State Supported Living Center) for 11 years while getting my masters degree in Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. I have been an AISD speech pathologist for 30 years and have worked at Brooke elementary for over 20 years. In addition to Brooke elementary, I was assigned to the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Services Day School at the Austin State Hospital for 29 years, Lee elementary for over 20 years, Dell Children's Medical Center Education Center, Barbara Jordan elementary, Pearce middle school (now Sadler Means Young Women's Academy) and Norman elementary. I am currently assigned to T.A. Brown in addition to Brooke elementary for the 2019-2020 school year. I worked for several years as part of the AISD Early Childhood evaluation summer team and was a team lead for the North team. Early childhood is a passion for me.

How I support the campus Green Initiative:
'My speech therapy room faces the chicken yard and I use the chickens as a topic of conversation with my speech students. Watching the chickens is very calming and has proven incredibly helpful in breaking the ice with new or shy students. I also use green topics like the life cycle of a plant to teach sequencing and retelling of stories.

How I incorporate tech into my classroom:
'I use voice output communication iPad apps, such as Proloquo2Go, to teach students who are nonverbal, have limited verbal skills or reduced speech skills, how to communicate more effectively.
