Mr. Gomez's 2nd Grade Superheroes
My name is Norman Gomez, but most people call me Norm. I was born in the great state of California, but moved to Austin when I was four years old. This will be my third year teaching 2nd grade at Brooke Elementary. I will be teaching math and science again this year. I graduated from what I consider the best university in the world.. Baylor University, with a degree in information systems and international business! I love to be outdoors when I can, run when its not too hot, and enjoy watching TV when I have time.
I am so excited for this new school year and know that we will achieve many goals this year!
Since we do have a late lunch students are allowed to bring a snack to eat after specials.
Green Eco School Initiative
One way that second grade supports our campus green initiative is by having weekly classes with a program called PEAS. They talk to the students about recycling, composting, the weather, and gardening. We also have a garden that we plant twice a year and teach the students how to plant and water what we grow.
Technology in the Classroom
This past year we had the Thinkery come out to our classroom and our students were able to learn how to code on Scratch, learn about circuits, and use Makey Makeys to create a project about the water cycle. We hope that the Thinkery comes to our class again this year. This year we will be having a one to one ratio in second grade so we hope to incorporate more technology into our math and science classes.
